About Kathy Pullen
Welcome! I have always loved to draw, so that I can escape to another world. As a child I was always filling every scrap of paper with drawings and doodles, usually of nature or fantasy creatures and scenes. I don't always communicate well with words, but I can do so with art. It is important to me to produce a strong feeling or emotion with the art I create.
Over the years I experimented with different media, but my favorite has always been colored pencil. I like the sharp precise point, and also the fact that pencils are not messy. I have often had to cram art between other aspects of life, and I can leave the pencils spread out on my desk. If I only have a short period of time to work on art, I can do so, which is a bit more difficult with paints.
When I am not drawing, I love nature and physical activity. I am inspired by the amazing beauty and miracles of the natural world. This fascination with nature lead me to pursue an education in the sciences, leading to a doctorate in Physics. My need for physical activity led me to be passionately involved in gymnastics, dance, and distance running over the years. All of these other activities affect my artwork. I like the precision of science, and the physicality of hand created art.
